Die »World Science Fiction Society« (kurz: WSFS) hat die Nominierungen für die HUGO-Awards 2014 bekanntgegeben.
Der HUGO-Award, der eigentlich »Science Fiction Achievement Award« heißt, wurde 1953 zum ersten Mal verliehen und gilt zusammen mit dem NEBULA-Award als die wichtigste Auszeichnung in der Science Fiction. Die WSFS besteht aus den angemeldeten Besuchern des aktuellen WorldCons (dem jährlichen Treffen der SF-Fans, -Autoren und -Verlegern aus aller Welt, URL: http://www.worldcon.org/). Der HUGO-Award ist also eine Leserauszeichnung.
Die literarischen Kategorien gliedern sich wie folgt:
Roman: mehr als 40.000 Wörter
Novelle: 17.500 – 40.000 Wörter
Erzählung: 7.500 – 17.500 Wörter
Kurzgeschichte: weniger als 7.500 Wörter
